Neben Mac OS Lion und der iCloud eben auch das neue iOS 5. Diese neueste Version des Betriebssystems für unsere mobilen Apple Devices erscheint für die breite Masse erst im Herbst diesen Jahres. Für Entwickler, Pressevertreter und zahlende Ebay’er lassen sich die Beta Versionen bereits jetzt nutzen. Kurz, das eigene iDevice muss irgendwie als Entwickler Gerät registriert werden.
Die für mich interessanteste Neuerung bei iOS 5 ist eindeutig das neue Notificationcenter. Ich muss ehrlich zugeben, ich hatte nie ein Problem mit dem bisherigen Benachrichtigungssystem, aber die neue Lösung gefällt trotzdem eindeutig besser. Mit einer einfachen swip-down Geste von der Statusbar abwärts, öffnet sich das Benachrichtigungsfenster. Hier bekommt man einen kompletten Überblick über alle unerledigten “Push-Meldungen”. Durch einfaches drauf tippen auf die jeweilige Notification öffnet sich die entsprechende App. Des Weiteren lassen sich hier auch ein Wetter- und ein Aktienwidget hinzufügen. Dies deutet wohl darauf hin, dass es in Zukunft möglich sein wird, eigene Widgets hinzuzufügen bzw. den Entwicklern ermöglicht, für Ihre Apps entsprechende Widgets zur Verfügung zu stellen.
Die neuen Notifications werden, auf Wunsch, auch auf dem Lockscreen angezeigt. E-Mail, entgangene Anrufe, SMS und sogar der Wecker. Klingelt nun der iPhone Wecker, hat man entweder durch den Slide-to-Unlock Slider unten die Möglichkeit den Wecker komplett auszuschalten, oder durch einen kleinen Button weiter oben in der Notificationliste, den Schlummermodus zu starten. Äußerst praktisch.
Eine weitere Neuerung betrifft die Kamera. Wirklich neu ist diese Funktion eigentlich nicht. Mit iOS 5 ist es möglich die Kamera mit druck auf den oberen Lautstärkeknopf auszulösen. Wir erinnern uns, da war mal was. Auch wenn ich grundsätzlich von dieser Funktion mehr als begeistert bin, ist es mir unverständlich, wieso Apple die Kamera mit dem oberen Knopf auslösen lässt. Der untere ist viel besser erreichbar, so wohl bei Fotos im Quer- als auch im Hochformat. Da ich hier von einer Beta Version spreche, bleibt durchaus noch die Hoffnung, dass das geändert wird. Die integrierte (unfassbar schlechte) HDR Funktion ist hinlänglich aus Version 4.x bekannt, neu hinzugekommen ist eine Raster Ansicht um die Kamera besser am Motiv ausrichten zu können. Drückt man im Lockscreen den Homebutton übrigends 2x, öffnet sich zum einen die altbekannte iPod Steuerung und zum anderen erscheint nun ein kleiner Kamera Button, Quick Start.
In iOS 5 findet sich außerdem eine neue Speicherverwaltung. Dort lässt sich genau einsehen welche App wie viel Speicherplatz belegt. Außerdem kann man auch Speicherplatz bereinigen. In meinem Beispiel habe ich die nicht sehr große Spotify App, die allerdings durch diverse Offline verfügbare Playlisten auf eine Gesamtgröße von 2,4 GB angewachsen ist. Diese zusätzlichen Daten lassen sich nun einfach in den Einstellungen entfernen. Ob man das braucht ist eine andere Frage, aber es ist nun möglich.
Stichwort iCloud. Mit iOS 5 können sämtliche E-Mails, Fotos, Musik und so weiter auf allen Devices via iCloud synchron gehalten werden. Bin ich nicht wirklich von überzeugt. Mangels entsprechender Gerätschaften konnte ich iCloud auch nicht weiter testen. Die iTunes 10.5 beta hat mit iCloud (noch) nix am Hut und mein iPod touch 2G nichts mit iOS 5. Die Musik Synchronisation klingt für mich noch plausibel (ist aber dank Spotify für mich trotzdem unnütz), aber den Rest brauch ich absolut nicht. Wie gesagt, das bezieht sich auf mich, andere werden sicher ihre Freude an iCloud finden. Find my iPhone ist ein (realativ) alter Schuh. Ein großartiger alter Schuh. Ich will mit der Formulierung nur darauf hinaus, dass ich die Funktion nicht mit zu der eben niedergemachten (neuen) iCloud zählen würde. Find my iPhone gibt es ja auch schon seit iOS 4.x.
Von Herrn Jobs Ebenfalls sehr hoch angepriesen wurde “PC-Free”. Die iOS Geräte können mit iTunes über WiFi synchronisiert werden. Alles über Nacht, keine Kabel. Genau so werden iOS Updates direkt (!) auf das Gerät geladen. Kein Umweg mehr über iTunes nötig. Zu dem werden in künftigen iOS Updates nur noch die Neuerungen heruntergeladen, nicht mehr das ganze OS. So viel in der Theorie. In der Praxis kann ich da leider noch nichts zu sagen, da der iTunes WiFi Sync in Beta 1 noch nicht funktionsfähig ist und wir, wie soeben erwähnt, noch auf Beta 1 sind und somit kein herunterladbares Software Update verfügbar ist. Zu “PC-Free” gehört aber auch, dass man ein neues iPhone / einen neuen iPod touch nun nicht mehr vor dem ersten Start mit iTunes verbinden muss. Das Gerät kann nun komplett eigenständig konfiguriert werden. Das funktioniert auch prima. Weiter ist es möglich, während der (kabelgebundenen) Synchronisation das iPhone weiter zu benutzen. Der “Sync-in-Progress” Bildschirm erscheint nicht mehr. Dafür zeigt ein kleines Symbol oben links in der Statusbar den stattfindenden (Sync-) Vorgang an.
Twitter nutzen wir alle. Naja, fast alle. Es liegt also gar nicht so fern, dass iOS 5 nun mit einer Twitter-Integration daher kommt. In den Systemeinstellungen lassen sich diverse Twitteraccounts anlegen. So lassen sich beispielsweise Fotos direkt aus der Foto Applikation heraus twittern. Ohne Umweg. Außerdem lassen sich im Adressbuch nun auch die Twitteraccounts eurer Kontakte anlegen. So sollen sich die Profilbilder der Kontakte automatisch mit den jeweiligen Twitter Avataren abgleichen. Habe ich nicht getestet.
Im App-Store gibt es bereits massig To-Do-Apps. Auch massig gute und kostenlose To-Do-Apps. Apple hat in iOS 5 trotzdem eine eigene eingebaut. Reminders. Ob man das braucht ist wie immer eine rein Subjektive Frage, ich kann dazu nur sagen, die App funktioniert wie sie soll. Nicht mehr und nicht weniger.
Ganz neu ist auch der Zeitungskiosk. Über diesen soll man (wahrscheinlich ab Herbst) diverse Magazine in digitale Form (wahrscheinlich kostenpflichtig) beziehen können. Mein Fazit dazu: Wieder eine App die sich nicht löschen lässt mehr auf dem Gerät. Das schlimmste ist aber, dass sich der Zeitungskiosk in keinen Ordner verschieben lässt. So bleibt nur die letzte Homescreen Seite um den Schund aus dem Blickfeld zu verbannen. Hier wäre Apple wohl besser beraten gewesen wenn sie es so wie bei den iBooks gehandhabt hätten. Bei Bedarf einfach die App aus dem App Store laden. Aber auch hier wieder der Hinweis, es handelt sich um eine sehr frühe Beta Version.
Die ehemalige iPod App wurde nun aufgeteilt in “Musik” und “Video”. Wenn ich mich recht entsinne ist das auf dem iPod touch schon immer so. Ob das sein muss, weiß ich nicht. Habe ja im vorherigen Absatz schon kundgetan, dass ich unnötige, unlöschbare Apple-Apps nicht sonderlich mag. Das darf man aber eigentlich auch wieder nicht als negativ im Bezug auf iOS 5 sehen, schließlich ist es schon immer so, mit den unlöschbaren Apps. Es kamen halt nur noch welche dazu.
Als letzte, diesmal wieder durchaus interessante Neuerung, habe ich mir die Tastatur aufgehoben. Auf Wunsch lassen sich nämlich nun die deutschen Umlaute ä, ü und ö direkt auf der Tastatur anzeigen. Nettes Feauture.
